Yes, a study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) has found that the Mediterranean diet can reduce the risk of development of chronic kidney disease by 50%.

"Many studies have found a beneficial relationship between the Mediterranean diet and health. Meanwhile, more and more is also evidence that poor diet associated with kidney disease," said researchers at Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Minesh Khatri, was quoted as saying of the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Friday (10/31/2014).

Khatri and colleagues conducted observations on 900 respondents within a period of 7 years. Participants were asked to apply before the Mediterranean diet to increase the consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, and rich in healthy fat intake. While intake such as red meat, processed foods, and sugary foods is limited.

As a result, participants who obey and follow the rules of the Mediterranean diet with the right kidney disease can reduce the risk by 50% and decreased kidney function as much as 42%.

"There needs to be a wonder drug consumption, is only required vigilance and discipline to diet and regular exercise to keep the body healthy condition," the message Dr. Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Initially the Mediterranean diet is the eating habits of the Greeks and Italians. After the diet was spread to France, Spain and Portugal, and eventually this diet into a new diet that is followed by many people.

Mediterranean diet could be interpreted as a diet by prioritizing intake derived from plants such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, olive oil, as well as additional yogurt, fish and eggs. Most of the food resources of the Mediterranean diet should be fresh and processed to a minimum.
